London City Lionesses produced a confident, commanding display to secure a 4-1 win over Southampton on the road.
The Pride have moved five points clear at the summit of the Women’s Championship* after securing three points at St Mary’s Stadium, thanks to an Izzy Goodwin hat-trick and a thunderous strike from Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah.
We got off to a great start on Friday night, with Goodwin opening the scoring inside four minutes. Freya Godfrey created the chance, she was unleashed in-behind by Boye-Hlorkah, before sliding it across to Izzy Goodwin to finish with ease.

Almost an exact replica of the first goal, Goodwin doubled hers and London City’s tally in the 22nd minute. Godfrey surged past multiple defenders with blistering pace before teeing up Goodwin, who made no mistake in rifling the ball into the roof of the net.
Sofia Jakobsson had a chance to make it three in the 37th minute, but after twisting and turning into the box from the right wing, her effort was deflected into Fran Stenson’s gloves.
Boye-Hlorkah scored the London outfits third goal of the evening on the stroke of half-time, thundering a shot into the top right corner and in off the post. The move was started by England U23’s Godfrey and Goodwin with some fantastic passing on the left wing before picking out Boye-Hlorkah.

The Pride didn’t let off in the second period. Godfrey almost got onto the end of a vicious Goodwin cross in the 47th minute, and Jakobsson laid off Goodwin in the 50th minute, only for the ball to go over the bar.
Molly Pike scored a great goal for the home side in the 57th minute, cutting in on her right foot and curling it into the top-right corner.
In a fantastic response, Goodwin silenced any comeback plans by nodding in her third and London City’s fourth of the afternoon in the 62nd minute. She glanced a looping header into the bottom right corner after a pinpoint cross from Boye-Hlorkah.

Jocelyn Prêcheur’s side didn’t let up and almost made it five in the 74th minute. Grace Neville forced a great save out of Stenson, arrowing a low attempt on goal into the far corner.
London City Lionesses saw the game out comfortably, with five substitutions in the second half ensuring that the job was complete.
We head into our final home game of the season against Durham on a nine-game unbeaten streak in the league, sustaining our form into the tail end of the season.

Next Sunday, it’s the final game at Hayes Lane this season, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.
Don’t miss it.
