Shae Yanez reaches 50 appearances for London City Lionesses

This Sunday, saw our number 30, Shae Yanez, become the third player to reach the milestone of 50 appearances for London City Lionesses.

The Pennsylvania-born shot-stopper joined the Lionesses ahead of the 2020/21 season, and quickly established herself as one of the Championships most dependable keepers.

Indeed, last season Yanez continued her remarkable form, racking up seven clean sheets in all competitions in our last campaign, and finishing the season as the Players Player of the Season.

Speaking on reaching the milestone, Yanez said:

“I feel like it's flown by,” said Yanez, “I didn't even realise I was close to 50 and I've been here for two seasons now going on my third and I've enjoyed every minute of it.

“Reaching 50 is a huge milestone in my career, so I'm excited to see where it goes from here.”

“Looking back to when I came to London city, I was welcomed right away and everyone was so nice and it was great to have such supportive teammates and good people around me.”

As for highlights from her time with the Lionesses, which ones sprang to mind for Yanez?

“Firstly, I think being named as co-captain alongside Harley, we’ve built a really good relationship and sharing that captaincy has just helped to develop that.

“I’d also have to say beating Liverpool away in the first game of the season last year, has to be up there.

“Then I’d say those moments off the pitch,” said Yanez, “ for example a group of us play Fortnight together most nights, so that's it's a lot of fun and just helps to keep building those bonds.”

Speaking on Yanez’s milestone, Head Coach Melissa Phillips had this to say:

“Shae has been a mainstay in goal since her arrival to London City.

“She has grown in confidence on the pitch over the two seasons and really been able to cement herself as one of the top shot stoppers in our league.

“Her leadership and drive to push this team forward are always present in the squad.

“A fantastic achievement for Shae, but 50 appearances comes at no surprise as she wholeheartedly shares ambition with the club.”
