London City Lionesses forward Sarah Ewens added another goal to her collection on Sunday [12 March], breaking the deadlock after just six minutes of play against Lewes.
“After a disappointing result last week, it’s great to bounce back,” explained the 30-year-old shortly after the final whistle was blown.
“I thought we were excellent in the first half – we put them under a lot of pressure because our press was excellent. We’re obviously disappointed to concede in the second half, but we’re delighted overall.”
Ewens, shifted into a new position as a wide forward versus the Rooks, was a constant threat and already appears to have struck up an impressive relationship with Deadline Day arrival Kyra Carusa.
“I thought we had a good connection,” Ewens said of her partnership with the Republic of Ireland international. “It was good to play with Kyra because it’s usually a choice between us. I’m really happy that she scored, she took it really well. Kyra really deserves that.”
Ewens and Carusa assisted each other on their strikes against Lewes, which bodes well for the newly-pressed double-act ahead of a showdown with title rivals Bristol City on Sunday [19 March].
“I think we take confidence from this week, we have to believe in ourselves,” added Ewens. “We just need to keep working hard in training and take this into next week.”
