London City Lionesses is thrilled to announce that Nicola Williams has joined the Club as First Team Assistant Coach on a contract until June 2025.
The Australian boasts a wealth of experience across international and club women’s football, with spells as an assistant coach for S.S. Lazio, A.C. Milan, and – most recently – Papua New Guinea.
Williams arrives at Princes Park with recent involvement in the Barclays Women’s Super League, in which she worked as an assistant coach to Lydia Bedford at Leicester City last season.
"Bringing my experience in high-performance football at both the international and domestic level, I aim to immediately create the professional environment needed to support our players and help the team reach its potential," said the 41-year-old.
"I see my role here as a great opportunity to build on the success of previous years and start a new chapter for the club, with a direction that has shared values and goals."
Williams, one of the earliest recipients of Football Australia’s Elite Coaching Scholarship, started her career in the dugout as Perth Glory head coach, who she led to a fifth-place finish in their inaugural W-League season.
The Lancaster-born tactician has also worked as an academy development coach in Italy, with additional stints as an assistant coach for Trinidad & Tobago and Australia U20s.
“We conducted a long and diligent search to find the right technical staff to help the Club fulfil its long-term ambitions," said Head of Recruitment and Player Acquisition Ronald Thompson.
“Nicola is an innovative coach, with a vast amount of experience, who takes players out of their comfort zone to unlock the very best performances from them. Her time working with younger players will also be valuable to our Professional Game Academy.
“The leadership qualities that Nicola brings to the role will drive the team forward, putting us in the best position to take the next step in our journey."
Welcome to London City Lionesses, Nicola!
