After joining London City Lionesses from Millwall FC in the club’s inaugural season, Fitzgerald has made herself an effective and impactful player in Phillip’s squad this past year.
The winger demonstrated her tenacity and competitiveness, as she earned SETL Player of the Match in the Women’s FA Cup matchup against top Barclays WSL side, Chelsea FC Women. She netted her first goal of the season against Coventry United LFC helping to solidify the team’s 2-0 win.
In what was an outstanding team performance in the last match of the season against Liverpool FC Women, Fitzgerald was a key player as she capitalised off of a set piece to get the team back into the game, 2-1, which resulted in a 2-2 draw with the Reds.
The 20-year-old also has international experience playing for England’s youth International Squad where she earned her cap as a member of the U19 squad.
Head Coach Melissa Phillips shared her thoughts on Lucy and said, “Fitzy is such a passionate player and her competitive spirit is infectious within the team. She has an incredible engine and plays with an unrivaled determination.
She loves the game, loves to learn and brings great energy to our environment every day. We look forward to continuing to work with Lucy in her development and excited to have her back to London City as we push towards our goals."
On the extended deal and looking ahead to the upcoming season, Fitzgerald said, “I’m really excited to re-sign with London City Lionesses. We have grown a lot as a club and team last season since Mel and Cori have come in, and I can’t wait to push on even more.
I want to keep learning and improving as a player and person, and I believe the club is the best place to help me do this. I just can’t wait to get going with the team!”
