London City Lionesses 1, Blackburn Rovers 0.

Super subs Freya Godfrey and Miljana Ivanović combined to make the difference against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday afternoon.

London City Lionesses broke their Women’s Championship home attendance record on Sunday as they recorded a 1-0 win over Blackburn.

Jocelyn Prêcheur’s side took the lead in the 84th minute, after Miljana Ivanović finished off Freya Godfrey’s pass under the afternoon sun.

The Pride controlled possession from the start but struggled to convert it into chances in the early stages.

Sofia Jakobsson broke past the defence on three occasions – in the 7th, 21st and 33rd minutes – but she couldn’t apply the finishing touch.

Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah came close in the 38th minute, directing a powerful header into the top of the net, but Alexandra Brooks was there to make a smart save.

Just four minutes before the break, Cerys Brown was millimetres away from putting the Pride ahead, but her close range attempt agonisingly flashed just wide of the post.

London City piled on the pressure throughout the second half, with lively substitutes Godfrey and Ivanović using their agility, pace and footwork to carve out chances.

It was them two who combined for the first goal of the game in the 84th minute, as Godfrey sprinted in-behind the defence, poked it over Brooks and into the path of Ivanović, who volleyed it into an empty net.

After ten minutes of added time, London City Lionesses saw the game out to win by one goal, securing another crucial three points.

We stay three points behind league leaders Birmingham City, with a game in hand and five games to go in the Women’s Championship.

This win and clean sheet extends our unbeaten streak in the league to six ahead of our clash with Sheffield United next Sunday.

With just five games left, every moment counts. Two home fixtures remain – secure your tickets for the final clashes at Hayes Lane below.
