Just like local buses, trips to the Dripping Pan arrive in pairs for London City Lionesses.
Carolina Morace’s squad return to the South Coast on Wednesday [22 November] at 19:30, visiting Lewes for the second time in a week, this time for a crucial Continental Tyres League Cup contest.
While the hosts prevailed on Sunday, launching a successful comeback response after Paige Satchell opened the scoring, there are reasons to be optimistic ahead of the return fixture.
Satchell, who retained her spot in the New Zealand squad this week, was a constant forn in the side of the Rooks’ back line last time out, using her blistering pace to break the lines and stretch the game for London City.
In defence, Paige Culver has found her stride and has formed an imposing partnership with Georgia Brougham. The Rooks didn’t have an answer for London City’s defensive system in open play, with both of their goals coming from set-plays.
Anna Grey, the scorer of the winning goal on Sunday, is the player to watch from Lewes.
The 21-year-old midfielder joined the Rooks from National League outfit Ipswich Town this summer and has hit the ground running in the second tier.
Goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse is also on top form, producing a handful of top-class saves to frustrate the Pride in league play.
The fixture has not been selected for live broadcast on the FA Player.
