International Round-Up: London City Lionesses shine on the global stage.

London City Lionesses made their mark on the February international break, with ten players away representing six different nations.

From match-winning goals to crucial penalty saves, our players made an impact at both ends of the pitch, with one player captaining her country to SheBelieves Cup glory.

With all the international games wrapped up, and focus shifting back to the Women’s Championship, here is how our players fared whilst away.

England U23s

The Young Lionesses had mixed results, narrowly losing 2-3 to Germany in Walsall before overcoming France 1-0 in Stevenage.

London City’s talent starred in the second fixture, with Izzy Goodwin stealing the headlines with the match-winning goal.

Teyah Goldie also scooped up the POTM award after contributing to a clean sheet with some fantastic defensive work.

 England U19s

Sophia Poor and England’s U19’s had three games in six days as they travelled to Spain this February. They took on Spain, the USA and the Netherlands.

Poor started against the Netherlands and rescued England with a crucial second-half penalty save.

The Young Lionesses capped off their time in Spain with back-to-back wins, sealing a 5-3 penalty shoot-out victory over the Netherlands after previously defeating the USA, with Poor playing a vital role in the Netherlands result.

Sweden

Kosovare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson both appeared in both of Sweden’s Nations League fixtures, coming off the bench as they beat Denmark 2-1 and drew to Wales 1-1.

China

Shen Mengyu played a full 90 minutes against Chinese Taipei Women, with China winning 4-0.

Japan

Saki Kumagai won her 30th career honour during the international break, further cementing her status as a true legend of the game.

As captain, Kumagai led her nation to a convincing 4-0 win over Australia.

The midfielder helped to end Emma Hayes unbeaten run as USA boss in a tight game that Japan won 2-1, ultimately clinching the SheBelieves Cup.

New Zealand

Grace Neville and New Zealand had a double-header against Costa Rica. The London City full-back featured in both matches, delivering a standout performance in the second game.

Neville came on at half-time in their draw against Costa Rica in the first game, before starting in the second game, where the Ferns snatched a 0-1 win in the 89th minute.

Republic of Ireland

Megan Campbell played 87 minutes in their 1-0 win over Turkey, keeping a solid clean sheet for the Republic of Ireland.

Unfortunately, Campbell then tweaked her hamstring during the warm-up, after being named in the starting XI against Slovenia, which saw her international break come to an end.
