International Review: October 2024

It was a qualification window to remember for London City Lionesses’ international stars, with Northern Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, and the Republic of Ireland advancing to the final stage of the EURO Playoffs.

Connie Scofield and Northern Ireland pulled through a nail-biting first-round tie with Croatia, winning it all in second-leg extra time courtesy of a Lauren Wade strike.

Northern Ireland came from behind to draw 1-1 with Croatia on the continent, with Belfast providing the backdrop for their decisive 1-0 win in leg two.

Scofield started both matches for Tanya Oxtoby’s side.

It was smoother sailing for the Republic of Ireland versus Georgia, with the Girls in Green defeating Georgia 9-0 on aggregate.

Grace Moloney backstopped Eileen Gleason’s side to a 6-0 win in the first-leg, before Courtney Brosnan retook the net in Dublin.

Kosovare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson helped Sweden eliminate Luxembourg 12-0 over two legs, with both players featuring from the bench.

Scotland also qualified for the final round of the Euro Playoffs, with Emma Mukandi an unused substitute as Pedro Martinez Losa’s side won 5-0 over Hungary.

Teyah Goldie played the full-ninety of England U23s’ 1-0 win over Portugal, while Isobel Goodwin was an unused substitute versus the Netherlands and Portugal.
