We’re excited to announce that Cerys Brown’s loan move from Chelsea has been made permanent.
The 19-year-old joined the Pride in August for a season-long loan, but it’s not taken long for Jocelyn Prêcheur to want a permanent deal for the exciting full-back.
Brown has put in some fantastic displays from right-back in the early stages of her London City career. She arrived at the club as a promising talent but has proved to be so much more than that.
Brown started off in the Chelsea academy, and has had loan spells at both Watford and London City. She has gone from strength to strength, known for her tenacity on the pitch, discipline and ability to both defend and attack.
In the U19 European Championships, the Lionesses reached the semi-finals after being knocked out by eventual winners Spain. Brown featured in all four games, registering an assist against Lithuania.
She was recognised on the international stage when she was named in the U19’s European Championships ‘Best XI’ – breaking into a team that featured eight finalists – a nod to her great performances.
Brown can’t wait to continue her journey with the Pride: “I honestly still can’t believe it. Since I’ve come here, everyone has made me feel so welcome, and I think I’ve become a better player for it.
“To be able to stay here and continue with everyone is a really good feeling.
“I just think the aspirations that everyone at this club is something I haven’t seen before.
“There is no limit to where we can go.”
Head coach Jocelyn Prêcheur added: “I am very satisfied about Cerys’s signing, she represents perfectly what we are doing at London City.
“She is a hard worker and understands which state of mind I expect from my players.
“Already, she has improved and became an important asset for the team, I think it’s just the beginning.
“I am looking forward to keep going her development and see how far she can go. She is also a good example to show we provide an adapted working environment for young players to develop, which is also central in our strategy.”
