London City Lionesses endured a frustrating afternoon at St. Andrew's on Sunday [28 January], losing by a single goal to title-chasing Birmingham City.
The Pride created the majority of the game's chances, but were unable to bite back after Cho So-Hyun netted for the hosts in the fifth minute.
While Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Tinaya Alexander, and Danielle Carter went close to finding the back of the net, it was Blues shot-stopper Lucy Thomas who won the battle.
Morace spoke with reporters after the match; here is every word she said.
What did you make of the team’s performance this afternoon?
We played well and I think the right result today would have been a draw because we created more than them. Chantelle, Tinaya, and Dan were all close to scoring, but sometimes you need to have a little bit more luck.
It’s also true that sometimes we have to make life easier for ourselves by making different decisions – driving closer to the goal and shooting from there. It is a big thing to play three games in ten days, so I congratulate the players for that.
While it was disappointing not to score, are you happy with how the team defended?
They didn’t really have many chances.
There was a moment in the second half when Choe Yu-Ri arrived on her own but maybe she was offside in that situation, I have to look at it again.
It’s just one mistake that the line of defenders made. When we build from the back, we need to be aggressive when we lose the ball. Today, we needed to play more longer passes because their press was very intense and we had to verticalize the game.
But I’m happy that we limited their chances.
Does this performance add to your confidence ahead of next weekend’s match against Blackburn Rovers?
I think that our best performance this season was against Blackburn, we won 3-0 in their home. Every match in this league is difficult, so we have to get better at understanding our movements. I can see that the players are improving at what I ask of them.
