London City Lionesses swept Blackburn Rovers aside on Sunday [5 November], winning 3-0 at Ewood Park in the Barclays Women's Championship.
Speaking exclusively to londoncitylionesses.com, head coach Carolina Morace revealed her satisfaction following a dominant display.
Carolina, how are you feeling after three goals, three points, and an impressive team performance?
That is the best we have played this season. I think everything was good today: the players found one another with their passing, they were very aggressive out of possession, and it was pleasing to score three goals early because it allowed us to play in a better way [with more confidence]. I think that we shocked the opponent because the first half was really good. Now, we need to keep working in this direction because the players have shown us what they are capable of.
Playing in a new position, Maddi was very impressive – what did you make of her performance?
Maddi has the technical and physical attributes to succeed, we know this. Today, we were very happy [with her performance] because she scored and had an assist, playing very well defensively as well. Generally, we know that lateral players can play as a full-back or in midfield – we have seen this with Lucy [Fitzgerald] too. We know that Maddi can do this job and we are very happy with her performance.
Paige Satchell also played in a new role, how do you rate her display?
You know that we don’t have many players [due to injury] and we need to improvise. I told Paige to play in a certain way, closer to Dan, and I’m happy with the result. I think it can be easier to play closer to someone like Dan because she talks a lot during the game and guides the others. I think she played very well, she was close to scoring, and she produced a good performance like a lot of other players.
It feels like the players are starting to click tactically, are you pleased with the progress you have seen?
They can do it and if there is the chance to do it, I prefer that they take the chance. I think they also showed that they are mature. We were not in the perfect physical position, but the players were smart and played in a way that allowed us to win.
