Atlanta Primus drives London City Lionesses to victory over Charlton Athletic

Atlanta Primus propelled London City Lionesses to a crucial 1-0 win over Charlton Athletic in the Barclays Women’s Championship title race.

The Lionesses and Addicks played out a tense first half, with the Jamaica international netting the game-winning goal six minutes before the final whistle.

London City looked dangerous in spells throughout the opening exchanges but were twice thwarted by fine saves from Charlton goalkeeper Sian Rogers.

Kyra Carusa was the shooter on both occasions, with her close-range shots turned aside by athletic kick-saves. The Addicks also had opportunities in the opening period, albeit in situations that Shae Yanez comfortably handled.

London City gained a numerical advantage in the 63rd minute, when Freda Ayisi was dismissed for two caution-able offences on Primus on the same play, and quickly went about exerting their influence.

Karin Muya and Jamie-Lee Napier, both half-time substitutes, were impactful in the final minutes, adding another dynamic to an already dangerous London City forward line.

But it was Primus who made the difference, flashing a low shot through traffic and into the bottom corner following a Shanade Hopcroft corner kick in the 86th minute.

The Lionesses held firm in the closing minutes, seeing out a vital win in the race for promotion.

With the international break taking effect tomorrow, the Lionesses will be forced to wait a fortnight until their next match when they travel to Southampton on Sunday, 16 April.

London City's next home match is the season finale, to be played on Sunday, 30 April versus Coventry United. See you there, #ThePride.
